Once upon a time in Cold Poland there was a happy family

1938/9

Migrated to Ukraine but later returned to Warsaw. Hid with a couple who had a son until they were found and were told to

leave by morning. Moved to another hiding with a single woman across from the Warsaw ghetto 

APRIL 19 -1943


During the Warsaw Ghetto uprising Rivka and Lea had to leave and a villager smuggled them in a hay wagon to his village. One night, Uziel managed to jump from a train and join the rest of the family for a day but as he was wounded he was transferred to a hospital in the Tarnow ghetto and they joined him in the ghetto. Rivka worked in a textile factory and sewed. She took Lea to work with her everyday under her coat.  When the Tarnow Ghetto was liquidated, Rivka moves to Warsaw and Lea stayed with a local woman until the money she receives for being with Lea stops and then joins Riivka in Warsaw. When the Russians start bombing Warsaw they again have to leave and by coincidence joined the local Partisans as where Rivka was a cook 

1945


Return to Zywiec. Their building was all occupied by Poles that took over the property and all that was left was their servants
apartment which they slept in. They succeeded in contacting relatives in Losan, Switzerland (Frida Adou). As a result, they began to get packages from family in the U.S. (Gustav Lefler, Gretta and Otto Lefler). They received food and tennis balls, which they sold for a lot of money. 

After exhausting the efforts to migrate to the U.S. they moved to Losan, Switzerland. Lea studied to be a kindergarten teacher

1949

Moved to Israel and lived with Uziel’s brother (Yossef Balicer) in Givat Shmuel. Few years later, Lea and Jehuda, purchased the
house from him. Lea started ulpan where she met Francis Rosentzweig (Jehuda’s cousin) who later introduced the two. Lea later studied in Seminar Levinsky (early childhood education)

1941

Pogrom in Yassi. Jehuda loses a few close relatives. Through a bribery of a high police officer the family managed to buy their freedom. Solo is forced to give up 50% of his business to his accountant Nicolai Rotzia. The Jews are thrown out of public schools and create schools in local synagogues
